What is NPAP Kenya?
NPAP Kenya is a multi-stakeholder platform that coordinates action on plastic waste across Kenya. The partnership works through four thematic pillars:
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): Strengthening producer responsibility for plastic packaging.
- Circular Economy Design: Promoting design for recyclability and reuse.
- Waste Management Infrastructure: Building collection, sorting, and recycling capacity.
- Data and Monitoring: Tracking progress and informing decision-making.
The 2030 Targets
100% Reusable/Recyclable
All plastic packaging in Kenya will be reusable or recyclable by 2030. This means designing out single-use plastics and investing in recycling infrastructure.
40% Recycling Rate
Kenya aims to recycle at least 40% of its plastic waste by 2030. This represents a significant increase from current rates and requires substantial investment in collection and processing capacity.
